Obituary of Charles Herbert Clark

It is with broken hearts that the family of Charles ‘Charlie’ Herbert Clark announce his unexpected passing on Thursday, December 19, 2024. Charlie was born on December 10, 1949 in Saint John, NB to the late Herbert and Kathleen (Mawhinney) Clark.

Charlie will be dearly missed by his wife of 34 years, Gloria (Large), brother Reg Clark, sister Kathy Moore, brothers in law Robert Bustin and Don Arthurs, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Charlie was predeceased by his sisters; Colleen Howe (Tim), Shirley Arthurs, Eleanor Rowe (Bill), and Peggy Bustin, sister-in-law Linda Clark and brother-in-law Wayne Moore.

Charlie loved music and became an accomplished guitarist. In the early years in Saint John he played with The Hodads with various local Saint John Artists including Peter Kindred before moving to Montreal in 1966. In Montreal Charlie played with fellow Saint John musicians Mike Wayne and Ken Tobias in the group “Crystal Staircase”. In 1970 he joined The Bells, where they had million selling records including Stay Awhile and Fly Little White Dove Fly. The group performed at venues such as Massy Hall, the Copacabana, Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show and the Dick Clark New Years Eve special from New York to name a few.

Charlie moved back to Saint John 1987 where he taught guitar at Rothesay Netherwood School and Susan Fullerton’s School of music, before teaching privately.

Besides music Charlie loved antique cars (and of course his Posche), the Saint John River, good Jazz and his wife and family.

Arrangements are under the care of Castle Fallsview Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3, 506-634-1701. Visitation will be held on Monday December 23, 2024 from 12:00 Noon – 2:00 PM. A Memorial Service will follow immediately in Castle Fallsview Chapel at 2:00 PM, with interment in Cedar Hill Extension and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations in Charlie’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Society NB, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
