Obituary of Avis Doreen Booth

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Avis Doreen Booth, (wife of the late William Blake Booth), announce her passing, which occurred on November 30, 2024 at Tucker Hall Shannex. Avis was born on October 14, 1939 in Tatworth Somerset England to the late Charles Frederick Nugent Lewis and Alice Mary (Puddy). The family immigrated from England in 1946 and arrived in Montreal on her seventh birthday, settling in Saint John West where she resided for the remainder of her life.

Avis attended La Tour, New Albert, and Saint John Vocational Schools. She worked in the office of Vocational School before furthering her education and obtaining her teaching degree and her master’s in education at UNB. Avis was a proud alumnus and teacher at Saint John Vocational until her retirement in 1998.

She enjoyed spending her summers at the cottage at Oak Point. Avis loved to travel, with many trips overseas, Alaskan Cruise, bus trips, shopping sprees in the States, and enjoyed spending a month in Myrtle Beach, SC with Bill and friends every spring for many years.

Avis loved spending time with family and friends. She was the most gracious hostess at dinner parties and gatherings; she was often referred to as “Mrs. Bouquet”.

Anglican by faith she was a lifelong parishioner of St. Jude’s Anglican Church, St. Georges, and the Mission Church. She was active in church affairs, vestry, choir and the ACW.

Avis is survived by her brother Edward (Linda) Lewis, step son Thomas (Carolyn) Booth, step daughter Stephanie Booth (Chris Hauta), she was a special Nana to Andrew, Ryan and Caragh. Avis was “Auntie” to her nephews Padraic McCombe (Stephanie) and Simon McCombe, and nieces Melissa Connor (Stephen) and Sarah Foye (Craig). She will also be missed by several cousins, co workers and lifelong friends.

In addition to her parents Charles and Alice, and husband William, Avis was predeceased by her sister Kathleen McCombe and her husband Reverend G.A Stephen McCombe.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Howe and Tucker Hall at Saint John Parkland.
