Obituary of Douglas Hamilton
The death of Douglas Arthur Hamilton occurred on Feb. 13, 2014, at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a short illness. Born in Saint John on May 23, 1926, Doug was the son of the late Gladys (Donaldson) and Arthur Hamilton. He was employed at the Port of Saint John and worked with two shipping companies before joining ILA 273. He was very active for 25 years with the Boy Scouts of Canada and was an original member of the West Side Food Bank. In his retirement he enjoyed bowling and cards where he made many good friends. Doug is survived by his wife of 21 years, Margaret Dickson Hamilton; two sons, Ian of Saint John, Glen (Clare) of Brooklyn, New York; two grandsons, Spencer, Max; sister-in-law Irene Hamilton; four Dickson step-sons, Vaughan (Sibylla), Terry (Janice), Jim (Pam), Chris (Frances); two Dickson step-daughters, Julie (Mike), Kathy (Duncan). He was predeceased by his first wife Joan (nee Brittian); twin brother Lloyd; sister Audrey Gates (Octavis); sister Doris Cudmore (Willard). Arrangements are being made by Castle Funeral Home. A private family service will be held and no visitations as per his wishes. Remembrances can be made to charities of your choice and would be appreciated by the family.
