To Jill and the other members of the family,I was just informed of Joan's passing.I am so overwhelmed with sadness as Joan has been a very important lifeline in my life. Without her I never would have survived. She was such an amazing woman and someone who I loved very much. Joan was my therapist for over 10 years and she was always there, no matter what time day or night. She brought me out of so many depths of depression and helped me to see that I was worthy of a happy life. I know there are so many other survivors of abuse that would say the same about her..she was one in a million. She was our angel and we will miss her so very much.You are all so very lucky to have had her as a mom. I know that she was so very proud of all of you as she had told me so.Take solace in remembering the happy memories you shared with her and how blessed you were to have her.Jill, take care of yourself...hugs to you...I will always remember what she did for me and I will surely miss her each and every day..loveCheryl Abbott

To Joan's Family:It was with great sadness that I heard of Joan's illness and of her passing. It was also a reminder however of what an honor it has been to be able to call Joan a friend, a fellow student and a fellow psychologist.What I will remember most about Joan was both her immense capacity for caring about fellow human beings, and her even greater capacity to enjoy life. Even in this time of sadness I hope that all of you are able to take some comfort in the life lessons that she taught all of us. Don't be afraid to take on new challenges, live life with zest and enthusiasm, and - above all - express love to its fullest.I understand that at some point there will be a celebration of Joan's life at her house on the beach - this is perfect for the Joan that I knew. To Joan's Family I had the pleasure of working with Joan for many years at Family Plus. She always had time to share her wisdom, humor and kindness with both staff and clients! I admired her "fiesty" spirit and reality based approach to everything she turned her hand to. None of us at Family Plus will forget her retirment party - she was definitely the "belle of the ball" that night. She will be greatly missed by all - we loved Joan! May your memories bring you comfort at this sad time.

To All Of The Ferguson FamilyIris & I were very saddened to learn of your mother's passing. We have many wonderful memories of you all as children growing up in various places around N.B. during those RCMP days. One particular occasion was when we were all stationed in Chatham. I looked after your family pet, a cocker spaniel named Cindy and she gave birth to a large litter of pups. What an exciting time that was. And now how the years have passed. To all Joan'a Family,I've known Joan since childhood days in Burin. While I grew up with Gail and Brenda we always looked up to Joan. We have fond memories of meeting Joan and most of her family when we lived in Ottawa in the 80's.. I worked at Social Development for many years and knew Joan in a professional capacity. She did excellent assessments for our department with children and families. She was always in high demand and sometimes unable to accept another referral. When she did, we were delighted because we felt we had hit the jackpot. Joan spoke often of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with great love and affection. She was a wonderful woman and my deepest condolences go out to you, her family, and friends at this time.
