Roberta was a sweet lady who always had a kind word and question for everybody. My Gram (one of my heroes), regarded her highly, saying "she has always been more of a sister to me than a cousin". I treasure my quilt from Roberta. With it come many memories of visits and cups of tea.
I will miss Roberta's lovely smile when I visit St. John. I think of her every time I make the bed with one of her beautiful quilts. I remember her telling me how she got started with quilt making. She said that she had starting keeping house for her mother and decided to get a group of her friends together for a bit of fun. She said they had a great time but when her mother took a look at the finished product she wasn't sure about the varied quality of the stitches. But Roberta said she left it as it was because the different stitches reminded her of her friends and the fun afternoon they had together. I love this story-diving into a big project and the value she placed on the event and friendships.
