Dear Marion and family,
It is with deep sadness that I write this. Del held a very special place in my heart. I first met him when I was doing my student teaching at Simonds High School and I will always remember how kind and welcoming he was to me. We later reconnected at St. Matthew's and Grace, where I always looked forward to seeing him on Sundays and chatting with him before church. I, like so many, will miss him...he touched many lives. My sincere condolences.

To the O'Brien family: My sincere condolences on the passing of Del. I first met Del when I worked for Willett Foods and he was helping with the schools canteen along with fellow teacher Larry Josselyn . I could tell it was a labor of love as every cent of profit went to the students. It helped fund sports teams, the arts, scholarships or any other need that came up. He always greeted me with that big smile that made me be glad I was there. After he retired I would run into Del at the Irving on Main street west or Harbour Station. He was a true gentleman and friend. God Bless Scott MacKnight

On behalf of Barb & myself our sincerest condolences to Marion Tim, Terry and all of the family at this difficult time. So ironic that Delvan & Helen would pass away on the same day.
The relationship between our families goes far beyond Delvan being the clerk of session during my fathers long time Ministry at St. Matthews. Not only was he an advisor and councillor to Dad and mom through their ministry but we saw him as a dear friend.
Our well being and the needs of the church were always at the centre of his best intentions.
His dedication and commitment to our family and the church was always so very much appreciated.
Our family grieves with you as we all navigate through this together. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you through this sensitive time

Marion and Family
I was extremely saddened to hear of Del’s passing. I had the pleasure of teaching with Del for several years at Beaconsfield School many years ago. Del was always ready with some type of story. He was a great guy to talk with. My wife Irma and I had the pleasure of seeing a ball game in Boston with Del and Marion. Every summer Del made that same trip to Boston for many years. Del had several interests but what stands out for me was his sense of humour and boisterous laugh. RIP Old Trout

I was so saddened to hear of Delvan’s passing. He was a cousin thru his mother Ida and my mom.Ruth Taylor. In fact, my mom was so fond of Delvan that had I been born a boy I was to be named Delvan, after him. For years I thought his name was Baby, because that is all I ever heard his Mom call him. When they came for visits, I loved to hear Delvan and his brother, Errol tease their Mom and Dad, (Ida and Tom) because when those boys laughed you just had to laugh as well. Delvan will be so missed by all who knew him, he was kind, funny, active in community affairs and a true Christian gentleman. Marion and family your loss is great, but know there are many others who are praying for your family.

Sorry to hear of Mr. O'Brien passing away. Just meet this smiling & good nature man at the nursing home August 2020. My Mom moved in the nursing home then. We would meet in the hallways and have great discussions and laughs. He would always ask me who won the card games between you and your Mom. I tell him, Mom won 2 out of 3 games and he would laugh and laugh. Glad I meet Mr. O'Brien. May he R.I.P.

Del was such a joy to be around with his beaming smile and gentlemanly manner. Truly a “ people person”, he gave generously of his talents and time to young people, students, athletes, professional colleagues and his community. His wife Marion held a special place among his family, friends and community to whom he was intensely loyal. He was a person one could always count on, thoughtful, candid, discreet and reliable. Although the pandemic prevented an “ in person” visit, we were able to reminisce and chat at length by phone quite recently with the help of St. John and St. Stephen Church Home staff, to whom so many are grateful. One of Del’s favourite places where he could keep in touch and determine the “pulse” of the community was the Lancaster Mall, a reminder of his fondness for personal interactions. His “ kindly manner” and “ infectious laugh”, could be guaranteed to bring a smile to anyone’s face. The lives he touched and enriched over the years are numerous and his friendly disposition will be truly missed. Sincerely, Jane and David Barry
