Bill was a good friend and great baseball coach… many of the things he taught me as a young player have been passed on to the kids I have coached, and I am sure when these kids become coaches themselves those things will be passed on again. For that reason, Bassy will live forever on the ballfield.
Rest in peace coach… you will be missed.

I always enjoyed chatting with Bill at our games. He was always so positive and engaged in the team. He was like the Mayor of TD Station - he knew everybody and their families. We will miss him dearly around the rink. Our deepest condolences to his family. - Trevor and the Sea Dogs

I am so sad to hear of Bassey's passing. Every time I saw him he reminded me so much of my father, his brother Arthur. To me they were identical although Bassey may have been slightly more outgoing.
When ever our paths crossed, he was always so friendly and brought back so many great childhood memories.
Our deepest condolences to Joan and family.

So sorry to hear of Billy's passing. We missed seeing him down around Lancaster Mall and had no idea he wasn't well.
I have such fond memories of life on Fisher Lake Road. Billy would try to get a ball game going in his front yard and he always had to be the catcher. Not much changed with him...such a lover of the sports.

To Bastarache Family,
Very saddened to hear of the passing of Billy. He was such a great 'community' man with great contributions to baseball, umpire, coach, and mentor to many. He loved the SJ Seadogs Hockey & seen between periods, walking around the concourse, talking to people. He always brought me candy, treats while I worked there & always got a big hug from Billy . He will be dearly missed.

Bastarache family, sorry for your loss. I remember Bill umpiring allot of games that I played in, some of which I pitched, at which time I was thankful his plate was an inch wider on the outside corner. But then as a batter......well that's another story. He has probably umped a couple of games in heaven already.....there has got to be baseball up there. Afterall the first words in the Bible are.....In the "big inning". RIP Bill.
