Obituary of Moonyeen Gertrude Doucet

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Moonyeen Gertrude Doucet (Staples). Moonyeen died on July 28 at the Shannex Parkland Nursing Home in Milledgeville, Saint John, NB. Although a long-time resident of Saint John, she was born in LaTuque Quebec on June 13, 1935 to her parents, Alden Staples and Kathleen Bonenfant of Quebec. She graduated from Saint Vincent’s High School and subsequently Mount Carmel Academy where she graduated with a focus in Business. She is predeceased by the love of her life, the late François Regis Doucet to whom she was married for 65 years. Moonyeen was a mother not only to their 9 children and family pet Caissie, but equally a loving and caring Aunt to more than 40 nieces and nephews. She was a faithful friend, a respected confidante and an excellent homemaker. A person with an incredible capacity for compassion, she made her friends a part of her family throughout her life and carried her memories of times she shared with them until the end. She could share laughter and empathy and could always be trusted to support her extended family through their trials and tribulations. Her greatest personal passion was as a lifelong avid reader. Finally, she loved to embroider – many family and friends were the recipients of her work. Always maintaining that everyone was welcome to her hospitality, she and her husband, spent decades of summers welcoming family and friends to their cottage in Cap Lumiere (Richibucto Cape) for lobster, family reunions and parties. She took enormous pride in her well-developed family recipe book and was always delighted to share with all those she welcomed. She is survived by her daughters: Carmen Gibbons (Dana Gibbons); Celia Doucet-Clark (Doug Clark); Kathleen Anderson (Daryl Anderson); and Karen Doucet (Ed Bordun); and by her two sons Regis Doucet (Gisele); and Bernard Doucet as well as her friends Yvon and Bella Arsenault, whom she loved and regarded as her own son and daughter. Further, she is survived by her grand-children Marley Anne Gibbons (Lucas Kitchen), Dr. Sophia Halassy (Kevin Piper), Leah and Sara Anderson. Moonyeen was born into a family of 11 children and leaves to grieve her brothers - Richard Staples (Lorraine), Butch Staples (Lynn), Bob Staples (Cindy) and sisters Mary Ann Ladd (Ross), Jean Bernard (Jacques), Sandra MacDonaugh (John), Beverly Taylor (Harry) and Kathleen Lavallee (Lewis - deceased). She was predeceased by her husband Francois Regis, her sons Maurice and Richard and her daughter Denise Marie Macavoy. She was also predeceased by her parents, her brothers Eric Staples (Robina), Bobby Staples and sisters Shirley McCarthy, Jean Staples. She wanted to express her sincere appreciation for the many years of support and caring that she received to the entire staff at Shannex Parkland in Millidgeville where she resided for the last several years, for their professional care and loving kindness. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3, 506-634-1701. Due to Covid-19 a Celebration of Moonyeen’s life will be held at a later date.
