Obituary of Horace Ross Meating

Horace Ross Meating passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 11th, 2019 at the Carleton Kirk Nursing Home. Horace was born on March 23rd, 1936 in Saint John, NB to the late Horace Sr. and Elise (Ross) Meating. He was the loving husband of the late Mary Margaret (Love) Meating. Horace was a life-long Westsider- he was born west and raised his family here. He was a long-time member of the 3rd FLD Artillery Band, ranking as a Sergeant and Warrant Officer and a long-time member of the St. Mary’s Band. Horace was an NB Tel Pioneer; he spent his career at NB Tel as a Telephone Installer, eventually retiring in 1992. He loved spending his summers at the family trailer in Harding’s point, you could always find him there with a smile on his face for the last 35 years. Horace will be dearly missed by his children; Richard Meating and Catherine (Wade) McDonald, sisters; Gladys Murphy and Eleanor Richard, grandchildren; Mathieu Mazerolle, Katie McDonald and Erica Meating, several nieces and nephews. Horace is predeceased by his parents, wife Mae, daughter Linda Mazerolle, brother Kenneth Meating, and sister Elsie Phillips. The family would like to thank the Carleton Kirk Staff for their kindness given to Horace over the past 10 years, treating him like family in his new home. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3 506-634-1701. Visitation will take place on Monday, July 15th, 2019 from 9:00AM- 11:00AM at Castle. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00AM in Castle “Fallsview” Chapel, interment will be held afterwards in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
