Obituary of Marie Frances Theresa Pitts

Marie Frances Theresa Pitts passed away with grace on October 31st 2017. Born on March 26, 1925 Theresa was the eldest daughter of the late William F. Joyce and Ellen (Doyle) Joyce. Theresa will be sadly missed by her children, Paula (Doug) Justason, Elaine (Carl) Tilley, Christine Danisch, Richard (Debbie) Pitts, Michele (Kevin Hogan) and Colleen (Scott) Thomson. Her cherished grandchildren Michael (Nancy) Justason, Andy (Monica) Justason, Tammy Tilley Reiman (Tony Reiman), Peter (Nona) Tilley, Jonathan (Linda) Danisch, Charlotte (Joe) MacQuairre, Maggie (Amari) Pitts, David Pitts, Lauren Hogan, Anna Hogan, Megan Thomson, and eight great grandchildren. Theresa also leaves behind her sisters Geraldine Snodgrass of Alberta, Joan Nice of Grand Bay, Rose Marie Rogers of Arizona, sister in-law Giselle Pitts of Saint John, her aunt Mary Doyle of Chatham NB as well as several nieces and nephews. Theresa was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, District Fire Chief Walter B (Primp) Pitts in 1998. Theresa was a lifelong Westsider and member of Assumption Parish. She was a devout Catholic and her strong faith served her well during her life. Theresa was recently celebrated as a 75 year graduate of Saint Vincent’s High School. She was a dedicated mother who valued education and was always learning and growing with every opportunity that came her way. As a senior she attended classes at UNBSJ with daughters. Her kindness and good humour made her a popular companion with her family and friends. She enjoyed cruising and travelled extensively. Theresa was a member of the Irish Cultural Society and her trips to Ireland enhanced her research into her Irish Heritage. Theresa’s family would like to thank the staff of the SJRH Palliative Care Unit for their kindness and compassion. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John (634-1701). Visitation will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017 2:00PM-4:00PM and 7:00PM-9:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 10:00am at Our Lady of Assumption Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
