Obituary of William Donald Johnstone
It’s with great sadness that the family of William “Billy” Donald Johnstone announces his sudden passing on March 12, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Billy was born on July 31, 1951 in Miramichi, NB to the late Donald and Pearl (Sleeth) Johnstone. Billy devoted his life to his career as a City of Saint John Fire Fighter, which spanned 35 years. Billy achieved the role of a Command Officer as a District Chief and served the citizens of Saint John for many years as a member of the Rescue Squad. He received several Accommodations for bravery as a member of this vital service. Billy also loved sports, especially his Detroit teams and golf. Billy is survived by his brother Harold Johnstone of Quispamsis, NB, nieces; Kerry, Tammy and Kelly, and nephews; Brendan and Justin. He will also be dearly missed by his team: Jim and Marilyn Oagles, Mark and Ticket Gillan, and Lisa Warren. Billy is predeceased by his parents Donald and Pearl, and his sister Margie Hatfield. Arrangements have been entrusted to Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3 506-634-1701. Keeping with Billy’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. Interment will be held at a later date in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Billy’s name can be made to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences can be made at www.castlefh.com
