Hank i was shocked and sad to hear of Bill's passing I've been privileged and happy to consider Bill and you friends since the 60's at the Bowl-Mor lanes and many times since . I can tell from the previous comments that Bill was so well liked by everyone who had the privilege of his company Always upbeat with a smile at the ready and a story or two to relate. In recent years our paths crossed again on the golf course a sport that Bill became so passionate about. I hope all the memories and well wishes help to lessen the heartache of the huge loss of such a good person All my best wishes and thoughts

I will miss my golfing buddy - Billy "White Shoes" Johnstone. Billy was a 'Dapper Dan' at the course- always dressed to impress & smiled when he was expected to putt out- saying "haven't miss from that length since the Civil War". We won the Westfield Alpine Doubles season-long handicap competition a few years back. Billy made a putt from #16 front fringe to a back hole (perhaps longest possible putt on course) to clinch finals match… he happily reminded fellow golfers of that feat for several seasons! He was always a positive, fun golf partner. I'm sure he told many tales while at work or bowling.

Inseparable in the '60s we decided to be life long best friends always had one another's back.Lots of memories from City road clubhouse.liquor control board yard playing baseball, ball hockey and wall ball.Bowlmore lanes every Saturday morning and Chinese fire drills around uncle Harold's Avis rent a car. God, there were great memories. We made a pact years ago that whoever went last would tell it like it was back then no cell phones' no video games and no female distractions. Never got into trouble all we ever had was fun and each other right through high school. I know my life is much richer having had Billy in it and I will miss him but I know that he is up there with Margie and telling me that "I'm ok Guy" So rest in peace best friend til we meet again. I first met Billy at a call in Saint John when he arrived to oversee fire support for our operation. Decked out in his Chief's Blues, he was everything I imagined a fire officer to be. I'm happy to say that from that day forward, we had a friendship and I'm very happy to have spent time with him here and in Florida. My condolences to you, his family and to the members of the Saint John Fire Department who served with him. I've attached a picture from our golf tournament a few years back when he helped lead his team to the win. Rest in peace Chief. Sgt. Peter Vail RCMP 'J' Division

I will miss our phone calls. We were high school hockey team mates and buddies in the Fire Departments for over 35 years. You were a good friend and I will always remember our times together. I probably teased you more then I should have but you knew I would never do anything to hurt you. Thank you for being my friend and I will miss you until it is time for me to leave this world!

Harold, Kerry, Tammy and Kelly. I am honored to call your Brother/Uncle, "my loving friend and confidante." It would be selfish of me to say I want him back, but we had so many more memories to make. But it warms my heart to know he is now in the loving arms of his Mom and Dad, and the comforting and warm embrace of his sister Margie. I know he had missed her terribly. Billy was a big part of my children's life and I have great memories of him with them. From the time he drove my son Matthew to his first day at St. FX University and then went back to bring him home. And then, more recently, to my daughter Michelle visiting him in his ailing health and cutting his "beautiful locks of hair" and shaving him. Billys "SUPER POWERS " were in his hair......or at least he believed they were. Billy...... known lovingly to me as my B.U.H. and I as his B.U. W. ( private joke) ,my heart is aching and a little empty without you in it to make me smile, but we will meet again. I will always love you. Truly, Your B.U.W.
