Obituary of David Peter Saunderson

It is with a hurting heart that Sharon has to say good bye to her best friend and husband of thirty-six years, David (Bruno) Peter Saunderson who was taken suddenly on Saturday, March 28, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on August 28, 1949, David was the son of the late Frank W. Saunderson, and Marion G. (Mabee) Saunderson. David had a passion for sports, especially hockey and senior fastball. He was a pitcher for the Carleton Club throughout the 1960's, and moved to Welland, Ontario in 1972 to play with the Senior Fast Pitch team in the Ontario Men's Senior League. After returning home in 1976, he played with The Sussex Dairy Kings and ended his career with the Saint John Alpines, where he represented his province in The Canadian National Fastball Championships in Ottawa, Ontario. He then played with intermediate leagues, one of which was the Carleton Squires and mentored the younger players of the Lower West Side. The highlight of David's hockey career was playing in the Maritime Junior Hockey League with the Moncton Junior Beavers and the Charlottetown Junior Islanders (1968-1969), and being coached by the "legendary" Turk Broda. He also enjoyed golfing and curling in his later years. David had a way of making people laugh with his impersonations of Louis Armstrong, Jimmy Stewart, Crazy Guggenheim and different characters of Red Skeleton as well as Winston Churchill. David always enjoyed his summer vacations at Sebago Lake in Maine with his wife Sharon and special friends Bill and Ann as well as his favourite girl Shianne. Another family dear to David are the Miller's; Wayne, Kira, and godson Alex. In addition to his wife Sharon(Flewelling), he is also survived by his sister in law Linda McCarten (Joe), brother in law Barry Flewelling, nephews Terry McAuley, Robbie McAuley, Colin McCarten, and nieces Jane Moses, and Monica Cote. He also has several great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents David was also predeceased by his sister Audrey McAuley and her husband George McAuley as well as his father in-law John Flewelling, and mother in-law Edna Flewelling. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB (634-1701). There will be no visitation or funeral as per David's request.
