I was saddened to hear about Leslie's passing. I worked with Leslie as a Literacy Intervention worker in ASD-S. We shared a lot of laughter and fun during our training sessions. Leslie was a committed educator and loved all the little ones she worked with. She was always genuinely concerned about the well being of her students. She certainly left a lasting legacy that will live on in the memories of all those who had the privilege to know her. Blessings to all her loved ones! Cheryl Kennedy

My first introduction to Les was over a game of Scrabble. She trounced me & we had an instant bond. Many fond memories of times spent together with our children in Saint John & Kennebecasis Island. Then in later years sitting around the campfire in Wallace, on the boat & swimming at the cottage. We will miss her great sense of humor, her kindness & her sparkle! The world has lost one of a kind. Much love to Ron, Jay, Tara, Lindsey, her grandchildren, her mom Joe, sister Greer & brothers Hank & Risk. Sharon & Pat Mc Ginnis

Ron and family, and the Stackhouse family. My heart breaks for your loss. Les welcomed me into her tribe when my family moved to Saint John in grade 11. Oh the adventures we had. Trips out west, camping, and just so many laughs. I even got to beautiful Wallace for some memorable times. Leslie was a gentle soul who had a wonderful smile and laugh. I would still bump into her occassionally on the west side and get a hug and a brief catch up. I thought of her often throughout the years. "They lived and laughed and loved and left" James Joyce

I'm so thankful that my daughter was in Mrs. Burgess' grade 1 class at Morna Heights. With her love of art, Cranky Crow fun and always making a moment to listen to a tidbit from Stella about space or science, she was beloved by both Stella and I. I will always remember the chats and laughs we had while organising her messy art supplies, walking on the beach or visiting together. I had looked forward to seeing her in Ireland, where we'd since moved, but unfortunately her trip didn't happen. I hope the lovely memories you have will comfort and strengthen you during this time of sadness. Leslie was one of a kind, a kindred spirit, and will be oh so missed.

To Leslie’s Family and Extended Family, I was saddened to open yesterday’s newspaper to see Leslie had passed away on July 3rd. I wish to send my deepest condolences to her family, and most specifically to Jo, Hank, Greer and Eric. My earliest memories of Leslie are as a teacher. One day, when she was working with special needs children on Douglas Avenue in the mid 1970’s, she invited me to go with her to work. I recall marvelling at Leslie’s ability to engage and inspire her young charges. It was obvious even then she was born to teach! In later years, our paths would cross on professional learning days or visits to Morna Heights. Each time we chatted I was struck by her continued enthusiasm for teaching and her caring approach with students. She truly was a born educator. I will always remember our final conversation, which took place at the Regional Hospital. As usual, Leslie greeted me with her warm smile, although it was obvious she was ill. After our conversation about her family and her Mom, we said our goodbyes and shared a long hug in the lobby. Leslie will always be remembered by those who knew her, because of her warm and caring ways. I will keep her and all of you in my thoughts and prayers. Barb Lawson Creamer

To Ron, Jay, Terra and Lindsey - Leslie was a huge influence in my life both professionally and personally. I thought the world of her and so did my family. Leslie was the first person my daughter Sadie ran to see at Morna - when we returned from Halifax ( following her own radiation treatments ). I am so sorry for your loss, Gail and Michael Crilley.

Oh the memories! Les was my cousin - we visited often as children to the amazing Rocky Bluff Terrace fun house. Beach days, the playhouse, climbing out the bedroom window to play while the parents were having fun!! The green monkey and the man in the corduroy pants...walking the tracks. Joyful times with our cousins! I didn’t see Leslie much as an adult - occasional pop-ins - but always welcome and that smile!! My heart goes out to Aunt Jo, Greer, Hank, Eric and their families and of course to Leslie’s husband, kids and grands. I know she will be missed!

I grieve the loss of my childhood friend. We were co-conspirators in many adventures, growing up together on the west side of Saint John. Once, when we were six, she accidentally slugged me in the face with a croquet mallet. In junior high, she led a quiet revolution to allow female students to wear slacks in the winter. (Yup, there was a dress code in those days) When we grew older, we camped together in the wilds of Vancouver Island and then hitchhiked to California. She was a kind and loyal friend, a wonderful mother and an extraordinary teacher. I shall miss her terribly.

Leslie and I were friends in Grade 8. I loved her and she was so generous in accepting the "new girl" into her circle of friends. I loved away in grade nine and we lost touch but I kept up on Leslie through our mutual friend, Deb Woolway, who I worked with at CBC. It is with great sadness that I read about Leslie's death. That amazing teenager who I knew obviously went on to live a life of meaning and love. My condolences to all who loved her and will miss her so much.
