My earliest memory of this beautiful lady goes back to our childhood in Rockwood Ct. Barbie Richards was my first friend and outdoor playing in either the front or back yard was our daily agenda. This also extended to the Allison Grounds for biking, skating or clubhouse activities. Regardless of where we were or what we were doing, if word came that Mrs. Richards and Mary were visiting, Barbie always rushed home immediately. I admired and respected her commitment to her family and the eagerness displayed to see her Aunt Mary and her grandmother. Of course, I enjoyed seeing Aunt Mary too, as she pulled up to the curb in her car. She would often stay outside and talk to us for a while before going inside. Such a lovely memory. In later years,I was thrilled see hr at St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing Alumni functions and observe her eloquence and interest in those around her. Her dedication to nursing the veterans at the DVA Hospital was her Nursing hallmark. Her beautiful picture in the newspaper when she turned 100 reflected the vibrant and interesting life she led. My condolences to you, Barbie, Paul, Betty and Patti. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Much love, Barb

We were saddened to learn of Mary’s passing and extend heartfelt sympathies and condolences to her family for their loss. We have so many wonderful memories of good times with Mary at choir practises, lunch dates, special celebrations, shopping malls, and the time Bernie convinced her to be special guest at the Remembrance Day Service held at Harbour Station. It was so special to have her be a part of the 100th anniversary of the end of the Great War. After the Service she turned to Elizabeth and said “If I had known how important an event this was, I would have worn my tiara”! That was Mary, and that’s what we loved about her. Her spunk, her spirit, her smile, and the twinkle in her eye. Our caring thoughts and prayers are with you all as you reflect on her long life and many contributions. Most sincerely, Bernie & Elizabeth

What a remarkable lady to have had the blessing of a long life with so many experiences that she could share with a variety of people over her many years of life. I met Mary as a young nurse starting my career & over the years, we were able to see each other again, whether it be singing or attending hospital reunions.. Rest in eternal peace dear Mary.
