Obituary of Carol Raynes
It is with gratitude for a life well lived that the family of Caroline (Carol) May Raynes announces the passing at Bobby’s Hospice on Saturday, August 12 2017, following a brief illness. Born on July 25, 1930 she was the daughter of the late William and Ida (Howard) Harris. She lived in Fairville all her life. Educated at Fairville Superior School and Saint John High School, she attended Teachers College to pursue her life-long wish to be a teacher. With the winter Extension and Summer School programs offered by UNB Fredericton she completed her Bachelor of Teaching and Bachelor of Arts degrees while teaching full time. Her career as a primary teacher spanned thirty eight and a half years in South Musquash, Denis Morris Memorial (Randolph) and Barnhill Memorial Schools. She held membership in the University Women’s Club- Travel group. She was involved with the Fundy Camera Club and the Carleton Choresters. She was a long standing collector for the Heart, Kidney, and Cancer Societies. Carol has been a faithful supporter of Lancaster Baptist Church. She sang in the choir worked with the CGIT groups and camps at Wegisigumg. She also directed the Junior Choir. Carol founded and directed the Lancaster Baptist Ambassadors, a men’s choir that performed for twenty years and was well received in the southern part of our province. She served as organist and choir director of several churches over the years. In later years she was a member of the NB Society of Retired Teachers and of a Ukelele Group. Carol is survived by her husband George Raynes and his sons Peter (Darryl) of Toronto and David of Airdire, Alberta. Cousins; Louise (Late Stan) Winslow, Leslie (Mae) Howard, Evelyn Miller of Waterville, NS, Doris (late Sterling) Howard of Saint John, NB, Caroline (Carol, May) (Millage) Dorey of Waterville, NS, and Deborah (Paul) King of Saint John, NB. Predeceased by her parents and infant sister. She will also be missed by a host of dear relatives in England, many cherished friends and former students. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (634 1701). Visitation will take place on Monday, August 14, 2017 from 2:00PM - 4:00PM and 6:00PM – 8:00PM and Tuesday August 15, 2017 from 2:00PM - 4:00PM and 6:00PM – 8:00PM. Funeral Service be held at Lancaster Baptist Church, on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 11:00AM. Reception will follow at Lancaster Baptist Church. A private family interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery. Donations to Bobby’s Hospice, Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, NBSRT Scholarship Fund to UNBSJ or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
