Obituary of Ralph Nelson Mawhinney
It is with heavy hearts and gratefulness for a life well lived that we announce the “going home” of Ralph Nelson Mawhinney who passed away surrounded by his loving family on April 30, 2018 at Bobby’s Hospice. Loving husband of the late Irene CR (Savage) Mawhinney. Ralph was a great man of faith, family and community. Born in Maces Bay on September 11, 1924 to the late John and Annie (Davis, Richardson) Mawhinney. He was a lifelong fisherman and mentor. Nothing besides his love of the Lord meant more to him than his family and life on the water. Ralph was a gentle and wise man who earned the love and respect of all who met and knew him. His love of animals especially “dogs” was evident as any dog around could be seen at his door for a treat. He was a member of Fundy Seaside Baptist Church and in the past served as church clerk and trustee. Also in the past Ralph was one of the directors of the Maces Bay Cemetery Corp and a director of the original Fundy Weirmen’s Association. Ralph could be called upon at any time for sound advice and knowledge pertaining to anything involving fishing and community matters. Ralph will be greatly missed by his son John and his daughter Judy Duke, grandchildren Jaret Mawhinney , Krista (Jared) Frye, Olivia Mawhinney, Natalie, Thomas and Emma Duke; great grandchildren Spiro, Paras, Liberty and Xavier Mawhinney, Addison and Aidyn Frye, special cousin Vivien (Ken) Carson, along with several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Ruth (Fraser) Richardson, sister-in-law Inez Mawhinney, brothers in-law Harold Shanks, Graham Savage and Emery Matthews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brothers Robert and Milford Mawhinney, sister Elsie Shanks, sister in-law’s June Matthews, Doreen Savage, son in-law Tom Duke, nephews Ronnie and Stephen Savage and close cousins. We would like to thank Jane Boyd Aucoin and Dr.’s Bewick and Sean Keyes, St. George Extra Mural Nurses and Dr. Chris O’Brien and his wonderful compassionate team at Bobby’s Hospice for all their excellent care. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (634 1701). Visitation will take place on Sunday, May 6th from 2PM-4PM and 7PM-9PM. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 7th at 2PM in Castle Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Maces Bay Cemetery. Donations to Fundy Seaside Baptist Church, Maces Bay Cemetery Corp., IWK, Bobby’s Hospice or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
