While I didn't know Eugene well, it was obvious that he was a gentleman as evidenced by the devotion he engendered in those who loved him, especially his grand-niece Helen. Condolences to all.

I met Eugene for the first time many years ago at a group dinner and experienced him as a calm and gentle person. Over the years I heard stories about his health and the care he was given by his family in Saint John. In particular his fondness of his grandniece, Helen and his appreciation for her care come to mind. In recent times his love for his ailing dog struck me and supports my image of his gentle character. Although blessed with high age, his passing will leave wounds with his loved ones no doubt as he was loved without question. Harald Feldmann

I often recall seeing Gene at Novena with a German Shepherd waiting in the car and later at daily Mass at the Cathedral being driven there by a couple of good friends whom I know very well. I was unable to attend the wake this evening, but I will be at the funeral tomorrow. Marilyn Ventzek, you were a Home Ec teacher at Prince Charles School when I was there as a supply teacher and you know my cousin, Marion Barry, well.

What an incredible incredible man.It has been my great honor and privilege to have had Eugene in my life for as long as I can remember. I truly learned at a young age the meaning of true friendship having experienced often the closeness he and my dad shared for a lifetime. As an adult Gene once again blessed me in my life with his devotion in the love and care of my sweet Rosie..Dog is God spelt backwards Frank use to say to me regarding Eugene's devotion to all Gods creatures. And devoted to all he was.Helen you were an angel ,his rock his everything. He loved you so.Take the greatest comfort in knowing so.God bless you all in the days ahead. My sincerest sympathies and much love Eileen

Sad to hear of his passing. He was a good man always had a story and a smile. He used to say "and were off like a heard of turtles" whenever we would go anywhere in his old convertable. I am Lynda McAleenans nephew, he was big part of my life growing up. He will be missed.
