Obituary of Zeldon Ernest Cross
Zeldon Ernest Cross passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at Bobby’s Hospice where he spent his final days surrounded by his family. Zeldon was born on April 26, 1941 in St. Stephen, NB to the late Winston and Jessie (Leavitt) Cross.
Zeldon was a hard worker who often recalled stories of his many roles in industries across southern NB and beyond. He devoted much of his career to driving tractor trailer and later shared his knowledge as a truck driving instructor. More recently he was a tour bus driver, showing off the beautiful province of NB. He was always devoted to supporting the ambitions of his wife and family.
Zeldon truly enjoyed spending his time with friends and family; they meant the world to him. Time together typically involved stories, laughter and of course good food. Zeldon was fond of sharing stories of his time spent in Beaver Harbour throughout his youth and early life and his time spent on the road. He could recall names, dates and locations of stories and good times across the decades of his life. He loved his winters in Florida with Wanda and many of their friends. Zeldon could always be found at AJ’s on Monday at noon, where he met his friends Buddy and Sterling and the waitresses who looked forward to their visits.
Zeldon was an extraordinary person, deeply committed to his faith and the church community at Hillcrest Baptist where he was a member for over 50 years. His dedication as a Trustee, Usher, and Teller, along with the countless hours he and Wanda spent volunteering, have left a lasting impact on many lives. He will certainly be remembered fondly and missed dearly by all who knew him. His legacy of service and devotion to Jesus will continue to inspire those in at Hillcrest and the community.
Zeldon leaves his wife of 60 years, Wanda Cross (Moore); daughter Wendy Himmelman (Mike) and their daughters, Jillian Richard and Drew Himmelman; son Greg Cross (Kelly) and their children Alan Cross (Noel) and Haley Cross (Justin) and their daughter Kiara Leavitt; daughter Stacy Cross and her sons, Devon Bourgeois and Konnor Bourgeois (Julia) and their daughter Arden as well as sister-in-law Kathy Moore and his many close friends at Hillcrest.
In addition to his parents Zeldon was predeceased by his brother-in-law Wayne Moore and son-in-law Bob Bourgeois.
Arrangements are under the care of Castle Fallsview Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3, 506-634-1701. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at Hillcrest Baptist Church from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. A Celebration of Zeldon’s life will take place on Thursday, December 12 at 1:00 PM at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery for immediate family, following which there will be a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers donations in Zeldon’s memory can be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church.
