Obituary of Louis Arthur Logan

It is with profound sorrow that the family of Louis Arthur Logan announces his peaceful passing on November 28th, 2024 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, at the age of 93. Lou was born on November 6th, 1931 and was the son of the late Arthur and Hazel Logan.

He was a loving Dad to his two daughters, Elaine Melanson and Janet Wilson. Lou is also survived by his sons-in-law, Stephen Melanson and Brian Wilson, his beloved grandchildren David Curran (Kristin), Jennifer Hannan (Jody), Amanda Wilson (Paul), Bradley Wilson (Lauren), Alicia Braganza (Marty), Julie Allison (Russell), and Joe Melanson (Robin). He was a special “Great Grampy Lou” to great-grandchildren Alice, Grace, Harper, Hannah, Zavier, Noah, Ethan, Elizabeth, Kelso, and Ahmi. Also left to mourn are his sister, Dawn Acker and family, brother Dick MacPherson and family, sister-in-law Naida Heans, special niece Karen Steen and family, and special nephews Larry Heans and Alan Heans and their families.

Lou was predeceased by his beloved wife of 59 years, Alice Heans, nephew Glen Keating, brothers-in-law Murray Keating, Bill Heans, Beverly Heans, sisters-in-law Audrey Keating and Jeanette Heans.

Lou was a long-time member of Lancaster Baptist Church and was sustained by his faith in God. He was a plumber and pipefitter by trade and a proud member of the Pipe Trades Union Local 213. In his younger years, Lou enjoyed playing hockey, bowling, and umpiring softball and baseball, and in later years, enjoyed shuffleboard and golf, along with chats at Tims with his many friends. He was an avid fan of the Saint John Flames and Saint John Sea Dogs hockey teams.

Throughout his life, Lou had a soft spot for animals, and over the years, many strays found their way into our family. Of special note were his much-loved dog Kizzie and cat Lily, along with the 33 red squirrels who were gently relocated from the backyard of our family home to the Irving Nature Park.

Lou and Alice enjoyed travelling and were frequent attendees at MLB spring training baseball games in Florida. Highlights of their travels include a trip with dear friends to Hawaii and an Alaskan cruise.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Serenity Cove Special Care Home for their amazing care of and love for “Mr. Lou” over the past five years. We can’t thank you enough. Thank you as well to the staff of the Saint John Regional Hospital Emergency Department and 5B South for your compassion and the gentle, attentive care you provided to our precious Dad.

Funeral arrangements are with Castle Fallsview Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John, NB 506-634-1701.
