Obituary of Brian Garfield Kierstead
With heavy hearts, the family of Brian Garfield Kierstead announces his passing on October 28, 2024. Born in Saint John on April 12, 1949, Brian met his soulmate Janice at Acadia University, and together they dedicated their lives to teaching and helping others. A favourite teacher of his students, Brian taught math and sciences at Millidgeville North High School and Saint John High School. Always looking for simple ways to help, he developed lunch time game clubs, was active with science fairs and yearbooks, brought holiday treats for his classes, and was a listening ear and non-judgmental friend to all. Creative and compassionate, silly and strong, he loved to make toys (anything can be turned into a spaceship!) and was a talented handyman with a very green thumb. Brian always had stories to share and slipped into teacher mode whenever anyone needed advice or support.
He is survived by his children, Kevin (Mai-Liss) and Karin (Ryan Fletcher), his cherished granddaughter, Allie Fletcher, and five nieces and nephews. Brian was predeceased by his parents, George and Thelma (Stanley) Kierstead, his sister Susan (Kierstead) Taylor, and his beloved wife, Janice (Height) Kierstead.
At Brian’s request, there will be no formal service. Donations to Diabetes Canada or the Zachary White Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
