Obituary of Brian Quigg
It is with broken hearts the family of John Brian Michael Quigg announce his peaceful passing on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Bobby’s Hospice with his family by his side. Born in Saint John, N.B., Brian was the son of the late John Richard Quigg and Mary Eleanor (Ackerson) Quigg.
Brian is survived by his wife; Joan (Arseneau) Quigg , Daughter; Deanna (Michael Gaetan) Quigg of Waverley, N.S. Sons; Patrick (Beverly) Quigg and Michael (Kathleen) Quinlan of Saint John. Grandson; Zane Power and Great Grandchild; Ari Sheppard, as well as two nephews and cousins.
Brian was predeceased by his parents; John Richard Quigg and Mary Eleanor (Ackerson) Quigg, Grand-daughter, Courtney MacKenzie, Sister, Mary Carolyn (Quigg) Stewart.
Although he didn't realize it at the time, Brian was an advocate of Women’s' rights. He, along with a friend, lobbied the NB Liquor Commission to have legislation changed to allow women the right to attend taverns in New Brunswick. He then opened the first tavern in New Brunswick which allowed women to attend.
Brian was a businessman but not one to sit behind a desk and issue orders. He treated all who he employed with respect. His businesses were often untraditional such as purchasing the last of the Bricklens to roll off the assembly line, operating a tavern and being with the Auxiliary Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Brian also helped other business owners along the way.
Brian had a love of not only his family and friends but also animals. He was willed a parrot but unfortunately 'Polly' swore too much and wasn't a good influence on the children which upset his wife. Polly had to find another home to find her crackers.
Besides loving all kinds of animals and cars, Brian also loved travelling and spent many Winters with his family trailering in Florida, mainly Disney World. He loved all things Disney, boats and warm weather. This resulted, upon retirement, in his spending a few years living on a boat in the West Indies; he was a modern day 'Jack Sparrow', captain of his own boat! It didn't take long to realize he wasn't cut out to be a pirate, that the real ones weren't friendly and Brian headed home to his loving family and life long friends.
