Obituary of Ralph Arnold Ervin

It is with heavy hearts the family of Ralph Arnold (Piker) Ervin announces his passing at the age of 89 on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Bobby’s Hospice. Ralph was born on June 27, 1935, to William T. Ervin and Nellie F. (Ferguson) Ervin.

Ralph is survived by the love of his life his wife; Rose Marie, sons; Michael (Sue), Joe (Francine), Rick (Darlene), Billy (Lisa), Daughter;  Sheryl RoseAnn, brother; Bob (Maureen), sisters-in-law; Sandra Frairs, Bonny Ervin, Janet Ervin, Patti Ervin., grandchildren; Wendy-Sue, Todd, Jessica, Allison, Trevor, Emily, Justine, Amy, and Abigail, great grandchildren; Irvin, Lucas, William, Eva, Ivy, Avery, Zoey, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ralph served in the reserve Navy for awhile, when he got out of reserves he graduated from Motor Mechanics Course at Saint John Vocational School. He was a Charter member of Harbour View Alumnae Vocational School. He worked at Battery Electric, the worked at Dexter’s Construction then onto Purdy’s Sales & Service after that he ran his own Irving Service Station in Grand Bay for awhile, then his next place of work was Kimberly Clark, and Irving Tissue where he retired from. He was a Charter member of Irving Pulp and Paper Retirees Club. Ralph had a passion for helping people, he was a Charter member of the River Valley Lion’s Club in Grand Bay, he helped with many projects, started Ball Fields in Grand Bay – Westfield, He helped many families at Christmas time, and helped hold Christmas Dinners for the blind. Ralph was a Charter member of the Co Op group to get the CO-OP started in Grand Bay He was very involved in his churches which he attended Nerepis, Grand Bay and later Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was a great mentor to his children and others, especially helping with the Wilderness boys canoe trips organized by camp wegesegum in his younger years.

Ralph was predeceased by his father and mother; Bill and Nellie Ervin, siblings; Vivian, Ronald, Roy, Valarie, Rodney, Richard, Paul, and Eddy.

A special Thank You to the Doctors and Nurses of 3 A North at the S.J.R.H., Carleton Kirk Nursing Home Palliative Care, and special nurse, his granddaughter, Amy. Thank You for the wonderful care that Dad received. A special Thank you  to Bobby’s Hospice for all the care Ralph received, and Castle Funeral home for their help in the funeral preparation.

The arrangements are under the care and direction of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (506 634 1701). A visitation will be held on Tuesday,October 15, 2024, at Castle Funeral Home from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. A Memorial service will be held at Hillcrest Baptist Church on Wednesday,October 16, 2024, at 1:00pm. A reception will be held at Hillcrest Baptist Church following the service. Donations can be made in memory of Ralph to the Grand Bay Lions Club, or Hillcrest Baptist Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
