Obituary of Joseph Roderick Donald Cyr
J. R. Donald Cyr passed away peacefully on Monday, April 8, 2024 at the Saint John Regional Hospital surrounded by his family. Donald was born on May 17, 1949 in Saint John, NB to the late Leonide and Azilda (St. Jarre) Cyr.
He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, Grampy and friend that will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Donald was a simple man, that would do anything for anyone. He was always there to help and was very involved with his grandchildren who were the light of his life. Donald was a life long Westsider and member of Holy Spirit Parish, serving as an altar boy in his youth. He was also a Queen’s Scout.
Donald was an avid biker, which took him to all areas of the city especially if there was a construction site to visit. He was the go-to person to find out what was being built and where. He enjoyed going for walks along Harbour Passage and working around the yard. Donald would often help care for his neighbors’ yards, snow blowing or mowing lawns; he enjoyed keeping busy.
Donald worked at Moosehead Breweries for 38 years retiring as the Logistics Manager, he also served as Union President for several years. He was a 3rd Degree Knight and member of the Knights of Columbus Council 937.
Donald will be dearly missed by his wife of 51 years Darlene Cyr (Hilton), son Christopher Cyr (Krystal), daughter Jennifer Brown (Marc), siblings; Gerry Cyr (Pat), Roger Cyr (Paula), Robert Cyr (Barb), and Philip Cyr (Marilyn), sister in law Josephine “Jo” Cyr, Grandchildren; Michael Cyr, Isabella Cyr, Alexis Cyr, Hailey Brown and Matthew Brown, great grandchildren; Caleb and Layla, Heidi Lavigne mother of Isabella and Alexis Cyr, many nieces and nephews, and best friends; Jack and Pat Oliver.
In addition to his parents Donald was predeceased by his infant sister Colette Cyr, and brother Renaldo “Reno” Cyr .
Arrangements are under the care of Castle Fallsivew Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3, 506-634-1701. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 15 from 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM. A Knights of Columbus Prayer Service will take place at 6:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from Holy Spirit Parish (St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church) on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 12:00 Noon. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Donald’s name can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
