Obituary of Alice Mae Gaunce

Alice Mae Gaunce passed away peacefully on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Bobby’s Hospice at the age of 92. Alice was born on July 28, 1931, in Muniac, NB to the late Harry and Ethel (Stewart) Foran.

Alice will be dearly missed by her daughter Angela Lee (Greg) and son Stephen Gaunce (Lynda), sisters; Helen Gifford and Diann Beatteay, daughter in law Tena Gaunce, 13 grandchildren; Andrew, Sarah, Christina, Amanda, Dustin, Lacey (Nick), Misty, Anastashia, Leslie Ann, Nathanial, Jonah, Octavia, and Issac, great grandchildren; Brooke, Neriah, Everett and Oaklynn, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents Alice is predeceased by her husband Robert Temple Gaunce, son William Robert Gaunce, daughter Penelope Reardon Picard, sister baby Florence, brothers; Douglas, Francis, Robert and Ellery Foran, and brothers in law; Wayne Gifford and Doug Beatteay.

Alice worked at Dreskin’s for several years and was an Avon representative for over 60 years. She loved cooking, specially making doughnuts and cookies; it made her very happy to share her creations with family and friends. Alice was also jigsaw puzzle enthusiast; she would often be working on a puzzle.

Alice always kept active. She was a member of the YMCA where she enjoyed swimming and jogging, and the Human Performance Centre in Grand Bay where she attended aerobics classes. In earlier years, Alice was a competitive synchronized swimmer and liked to go snowmobiling.

Alice’s grandchildren and great grandchildren were her world, she was so proud and delighted by each one of them.

Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3 506-634-1701. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, from 4:00 PM – 8:00PM. A Graveside Service will be held in Greenwood Cemetery on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations in Alice’s memory can be made to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation, Bobby’s Hospice, Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
