Obituary of Kathleen Barbara Jennings
It is with profound sadness that the family of Kathleen Barbara Jennings (known to many as Kay), of Saint John, announce her passing on Friday, February 2, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in 1930, in the city of Lancaster, Kathleen was the daughter of the late Louis and Mabel (Flood) Reid.
She was pre-deceased by her loving husband Ken (Kenneth) Albert Jennings in 1985.Before she married, Kathleen worked at McMurray’s bakery in Fairville and went to three movies a week at the Gaiety theatre. She also attended three dances a week, where she met her husband, Ken. She always claimed she wasn’t a very good knitter because she could only make socks. She often sang on the radio as a child and loved to sing along to country and western music. Days before she took her last breath, and even in the late stages of Alzheimer’s, she still sang the full lyrics to songs she loved. For many years, she was a parishioner of Saint Rose church, and it was partly her faith that lent her the strength to accept all the deep losses in her life. To her family, she was their rock.
Kathleen is survived by her son Kenneth Jennings, daughters; Donna Marie Lanteigne (Brian) of Grand Bay-Westfield, Colleen Jennings (Dave) of Woodman’s Pt and Darlene Jennings of Saint John, grandchildren; Troy Robinson of Toronto, Adam Robinson of Saint John, Natalie Girouard of Saint John, Brandon Lanteigne of Saint John, Dustin Lanteigne of Saint John, Merrissa Hill (Kyle) of Alberta, and Connor Campbell of Woodman’s Pt., great grandchildren;Celestine Mayhew, Rylie Cronk, Kaydin Cronk, Michael Peirce, Alexander Peirce, Lily Hill and Jack Hill, along with many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Kathleen was predeceased by her daughter Kathleen Karen Coram on February 1, 2024 (the late Joseph in 2021), daughter Louise Jennings (2020), son Richard Jennings (1985), son Michael Jennings (1983), son Stephen Jennings (1977), brother Francis Reid (1988), sisters Mary Duplisea (2009), and Inez McGovern (2023).
The children of Kathleen Jennings would like to thank the nurses on 4 A North and a very special thanks to the nurses on 5 A North, step down unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital. They would also like to thank their uncle, William (Bill) McGovern for managing all of their mother’s affairs since the death of their father in 1985. They want to thank their cousin Patricia McGovern for all the amazing help she provided to their mom over the years, and again to Patricia and her sister Mary Rose Dewar, for their love and deep dedication to their Aunt Kay during her stay in the hospital. Also, the unwavering support they provided to Aunt Kay’s children and the children of Aunt Kay’s daughter, Kathleen Coram, whose suffering ended on the Palliative Care unit, 23 hours before the sudden passing of her mom.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s society, the Canadian Cancer society, or the Palliative Care unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
