Obituary of John Joseph Palmer

The family of John Joseph Palmer is saddened to announce his passing on November 29, 2023, at the Saint John Regional Hospital; two days shy of his 82nd birthday. He was the eldest son of the late John J. and Mabel (nee Eagles) Palmer.

Dad grew up in Pleasant Point, Milford. In his youth he enjoyed playing hockey and baseball for Lancaster. Dad also loved fishing and hunting at Camp Antlers on Loch Alva. John was an armchair athlete in his later years, he was an avid Blue Jays fan and a lifetime diehard Canadiens fan. Dad passed his love for sports and the outdoors onto his children.

John was always a hard worker to provide for his family. He was a retiree of the Canadian Pacific Railway where he befriended many. He also worked at the Co-Op gas bar for many years.

Dad will be forever missed by his children: Leonard (Debbie) Palmer, David (Kathy) Palmer, Tony (Kandace) Palmer, Susan (Joseph) Trevors; Carol Ryan, Darrel (Leandrea) Short, and Katherine Penny; grandchildren: Meaghan (Jeremy) Short, Jessica (Jeremy) Palmer, Melkala (Wyatt) Trevors, Maddason (Lucas) Trevors, Alana (Cameron) Trevors, Devin Wright, Mark Green, Mitchell White, Cavin (Meagan) Short, and Kail Short; great-granddaughter Kaitlyn Robichaud; sisters Debbie (Eric) Maguire and Kim (Douglas) Wetmore; brother Brian (Dawn) Palmer; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, John is predeceased by his wife Betty Lou Short Palmer; younger brothers: Ronald H. and David G. Palmer; and infant son and daughter.

The family would like to extend a thank you to all the staff at Shannex – Cohen Hall, and on the Geriatric Medicine Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital, for all your hard work and compassionate care.
