Obituary of Norma Elizabeth Forbes

The family of Norma Elizabeth (nee Quilty) Forbes announces her passing on June 19, 2023. Beloved wife of 61 years to Andy (d. 2016), she is survived by her daughters Lynn of Saint John and Patricia (Robert) Snow of St. John’s, NL, and her sons Bob (Mona) of Caledonia, ON and Mickey (Paula) of Quispamsis; 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; sister Marion Oram (Cyril); brother-in-law John Quigg; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Predeceased by her husband and youngest daughter, Kelly (d. 2013), brother Francis “Bill” Quilty, sisters: Connie Hitchcock, Mary Gertrude Quigg and Lynne McCarthy, she was a daughter of the late Francis H. and Mary Gertrude (nee McFadden) Quilty.

Born in Saint John, Norma was a graduate of St. Vincent’s Girls High School and the Saint John General Hospital School of Nursing; she practiced her profession in Montreal and Saint John.

Norma left this life with her family beside her and went home to Our Lord and the many loved ones who had preceded her. She left peacefully and with little fanfare, as was her style. While we mourn her loss, our hearts are filled with gratitude that she shared her love, faith, wisdom, strength, sense of humour, and encouragement with us all. She was great fun to be with. Norma was known by everyone as a lady of upstanding character, devout faith, and compassion. Her infinite optimism, cheerful attitude and the certainty of faith always sustained her. She loved and was loved by her friends, with many of whom she maintained friendships from childhood and her nursing school days. Above all Norma cherished her role as wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

The family expresses sincere appreciation to the residents and staff of Parkland Shannex Howe Hall and Bobby’s Hospice.
