Robert Mawhinney

Obituary of Robert George Mawhinney

It is with sadness that the family of Robert George Mawhinney, from Maces Bay, announce his passing on March 4, 2023, at Kennebec Manor. He was born on May 5, 1949, in Saint John NB, to the late George and Janet (nee MacDonald) Mawhinney.

Robert was a private and hard-working man who worked as a custom broker for many years, both owning and running his own company and later finishing his career with Livingston International.

Robert grew up and lived in Maces Bay for about 50 years. “The Bay” was his home that he loved so much, and when he started his own family, he built a house right next to his parents overlooking The Bay of Fundy. He held his family and home community close to his heart until the very end.

Robert will be deeply missed by his two sons Matthew (Genevieve) and Marc Mawhinney, and their mother Susan Campbell; grandchild Gray Mawhinney; brother Wesley (Mary Jane) Mawhinney; nephew Eric Mawhinney; nieces Kaylyn Crawford and Krystal Pitre; and his beloved cat Felix. He was predeceased by his parents George and Janet.

The family would like to send a special thank you to all the staff at Kennebec Manor for their outstanding care and compassion they gave Robert over his final months.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave., Saint John, NB (506) 634-1701. As per Robert’s wishes, cremation has taken place with no visitation or services to follow. A private family gathering will occur later this Spring where Robert will be brought home, and his ashes scattered in Maces Bay.  Donations in Robert’s memory can be made to the Saint John SPCA or Canadian Cancer Society.
