Obituary of Ethel Mary McNeil
Surrounded by her loving family, Ethel Mary McNeil (nee Lyons) passed away peacefully on February 27th, 2023, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on February 3rd, 1938, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, she was the daughter of the late Robin and Bridget (nee Keenan) Lyons.
Ethel was adored by her 7 grandchildren with whom she spent many happy hours attending their school and sports events, making donuts, and sharing her wisdom about life. They knew that Nanny was there for them always and she blessed them with lifelong happy memories.
Ethel also had many, many friends who she gathered along life’s journey, both through her long career as a Medical Laboratory Technician and in her personal life. She especially enjoyed her Bridge friends and all of those she could convince into a quick game of cards over yet another cup of tea. Her friends, in turn, will miss her greatly; Ethel was a true and special friend and for many, for a lifetime.
Ethel is survived by her loving husband of 62 years Norman McNeil; daughter Mary Lynn (Andrew & sons Richard (Sarah) and Robin (Samantha)) Clark; sons Mark (Darlene) and David McNeil; grandchildren Scott (Kathleen ) Clarke, Stephen Clarke, Matthew McNeil, Kristen Clarke, Megan McNeil, Lindsey McNeil and Adam McNeil along with their significant others, siblings; Faye (Hoyt) Golding, Jackie (Louise) Lyons, Maryann (Donnie) Dube, Margaret Rose “Meggy” (Mike) Griffin, Judy (Charlie) Chiasson, Bernice “Bunny” (Dick) Parnell; Jerry (Karen) Lyons, and Danny (Lana) Lyons . Also survived by sister-in-law Sally (Norm) Belong, and brother-in-law Tim McNeil, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Ethel was predeceased by her parents Robin and Bridget, and brothers: Bobby (Shirley) Lyons, David (Wanda) Lyons and Donnie (Jane) Lyons, and Norm’s brother Danny McNeil.
