Obituary of Violet Mary Legere
It is with great sadness and tranquil hearts, the family announce the passing of Violet Mary (Matchett) Legere, wife of David George Legere. Angels welcomed Vi to her celestial home, peacefully, on the morning of Monday, February 20, 2023 from her earthly home, in Kingston.
Born in Saint John, N.B. on February 17, 1957, Vi was a daughter of the late Frank Albert Matchett and Margaret (Druet) Matchett.
Vi worked for Joan's Home Support Care as a home care worker until her recent retirement, and also gave care to foster children for many years. Violet was energetic, young at heart, and led a beautiful life filled with adventure and family. She was artistic and loved painting and dancing. She also loved the outdoors and could often be found gardening, camping, ATVing or dog sledding.
Vi is survived by her faithful and loving husband, David G. Legere, three daughters; Kelly L. Legere-Gallant (Mohamed Fouda) of Dieppe, Kerry A. (Dwayne) Jenkins of Rothesay, Krista M. (Jason) Holmes of Hampton, one son, George F. “David” Legere of Kingston, N.B., two brothers; George Matchett of Saint John, Frank (Fariba) Matchett of B.C., two sisters; Irene (John) McCrea of Ontario, Margaret "Maggie" (Michael) Stratis of Mispec, N.B., seven grandchildren; Isabel, Allison, and Mackenzie Legere, Emilie Holmes, Ayah and Samba Gallant, Julie Jenkins, and several nieces and nephews.
Vi is predeceased by her parents, Frank Matchett and Margaret (Druet) Matchett, and one sister, Patricia "Patty" McCracken.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (634-1701). Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2023 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 24, 2023 at Holy Spirit Worship Center (St. Rose of Lima, West-side, S.J.) at 12:00PM. A reception will be held at Castle Funeral Home following the service. Donations to the ALS Society or to the Special Olympics would be appreciated by the family.
