Obituary of Bessie Alberta Pickrell
It is with great sadness that the family of Bessie A. Pickrell announces her peaceful passing at Chateau de Champlain on Sunday, January 29, 2023. Born in Saint John, NB on July 11, 1924, Bessie was the daughter of the late Frederick and Bridie (nee Squires) Irvine.
Bessie was a long-time member of the Carleton Kirk United Church. She was a past member of the Carleton Ladies Curling Association and also a past member of the ladies’ section of the Union Club. Bessie was very involved, and a lifetime member of the I.O.D.E., joining them in 1943.
Bessie is survived by her son Bill (Sheila) Pickrell of Moncton NB, daughter Betty Anne McCoy of Saint John NB; three grandsons: Christopher (Tola) Pickrell of Toronto ON, Michael (Amanda) McCauley of Oromocto NB, and Steven (Kelsey) Pickrell of Greenwood NS; four great grandchildren: Jaelyn, Jacob, Zander, and Liam; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her loving husband of 75 years, Harry A Pickrell.
Arrangements under the care and direction of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (634 1701). In following with Bessie’s wishes cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. A Reception and Celebration of Bessie’s life will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023, from 1:30 – 3:00 PM at Castle Funeral Home. Donations in Bessie’s memory can be made to Bobby’s Hospice.
