Julia Quigley

Obituary of Julia Quigley

The death of Julia Alice (Cassidy) Quigley, wife of the late Patrick V. Quigley, of Saint John, took place unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital on February 1, 2012. Julia was the daughter of the late Daniel George Cassidy and Mary (Boyle) Cassidy of Maces Bay. Julia was a woman of deep faith. She lived the Gospel message of love to the fullest each day, always thinking of others and always looking for the good in everyone. She lost her loving husband Pat just over two years ago but that followed 53 years of marriage, including over 25 years of retirement together. Julia always put family first. She was a loving mother to son George (Wanda) Quigley and daughter Patricia (Jean-Guy) Bourque, and a role model and loving grandmother to grandsons Jason, Johnathan (John), Joseph and granddaughter Jennifer. She is survived by sister Kathleen (Cassidy) Pickard, several cousins, nieces and nephews, and pre-deceased by brothers Fred, Bill, Lawrence and John, and sister Agnes. Julia lived most of her married life in Loch Lomond. She was very active in her home parish of St. Joseph’s and has been a member of the Catholic Women’s league for over 50 years. She was a teacher, loved by all of her students to this day, spending most of her career teaching Grade 1 at Lakewood Elementary School. She loved travel (she and Pat enjoyed many cruises and visits to Ireland), music (especially the piano and fiddle), tracing her family history and, of course, children. In 1995 Julia and Pat moved to Millidgeville (Brentwood Towers) and attended St. Pius Church. They enjoyed “condo” life, free from shovelling and mowing, tackling many projects together, working in the community, and just enjoying each other’s company. Julia spent the last four months of her life in the hands of the wonderful and compassionate nurses and staff at the Saint John Regional Hospital 5C North. Her every need was lovingly met and our family will never forget the care and affection shown to her. Resting at Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave (634-1701) with visiting on Saturday, February 4, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 6, at 11 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Church. Immediately following the Mass a reception will be held at H.O.P.E. Centre (connected). Internment will take place at St. Brendon’s, Dipper harbour, in the spring. In lieu of flowers donations to H.O.P.E. Centre at St. Joseph’s Parish or to Rocmaura Nursing Home would be appreciated by the family
