Obituary of Donald Stevens
Mr. Donald “Doug” Edward Stevens, loving husband of Bertha “Stella” (Batstone) Stevens passed away on Monday, October 03, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on September 18, 1928, he was the son of the late Robert and Muriel (Lingley) Stevens. Doug worked for 23 years in the Steam/Power Plant of Irving Pulp & Paper. He loved the outdoors and spent many years downhill skiing , hunting and fishing, he also enjoyed skating with Stella at the Lancaster and Harbour Station Arenas. He and Stella motorcycled throughout the Maritimes and especially enjoyed Cape Breton and Newfoundland. Doug enjoyed Trap and Skeet Shooting with the Saint John Gun Club, having won numerous awards throughout the years and served as President of the Club for many years. Besides his wife Stella, he is survived by his sons, Robert (Linda), of Lorneville, NB and Roy (Carolyn), of Grand Bay-Westfield, NB; daughter, Donna (Michael) MacPherson, of Ottawa, Ontario; sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Peterson, Tatamagouche, NS, Charlotte Shaw, of Woodstock, NB; grandchildren, Bethany (Justin), Julie, Matthew, Sarah, Olivia and Heather and several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Castle Funeral Home, “Fallsview Chapel”, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John West, (634-1701). A reception, in Celebration of Doug’s life, will take place on Friday, October 07, 2011 from 2-4 p.m. at the Fallsview Family Reception Center. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Doug, to the Canadian Cancer Society, Extra Mural or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by his family.
