Obituary of Mary "Olive" Martin
The death of Mary “Olive” Martin, wife of the late Alphonse Martin, occurred on Saturday, November 01, 2014 at the Church of St. John St. Stephen Home. Born in Tignish, P.E.I, on June 28, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Sylvain and Melanie (Arsenault) DesRoches. Olive will be missed by her son Tilmon Martin, Saint John, daughters Norma (Gary) Murphy, Chance Harbour and Eleanor (Terry) McKiel, Summerville, NS. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren Tara (Tim) McCullough, Michael (Rachel) Murphy, Andrea (Chris) Ruohoniemi, Erin McKiel (Christopher Burke), and Amy (Chris) Richard; her five great grandsons Conor and Liam McCullough, Austin Muise, Justin and Andrew Murphy; her brother Wilfred (Mary Anne) DesRoches, Bridgeport, Connecticut. She was predeceased by brothers Arthur and Ernest DesRoches and sister Evelyn Perry.Blessed with a gentle, loving nature, Olive was treasured by her family and devoted her life to them. She was a woman of deep faith, a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption parish, an auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary and had belonged to the French Society. The family wishes to acknowledge, with gratitude, the love and care given to Olive by the staff of the Church of St. John St. Stephen Home, where she spent her last four years. Also a heartfelt thank you to Rose Aucoin, a faithful friend. Resting at Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home 309 Lancaster Ave., Saint John, with visitation on Tuesday, November 04, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon, Wednesday, November 05, 2014 at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 360 Dufferin Row. Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of the Assumption Church Building Fund or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
