Obituary of Gregory Joseph Kennedy
Gregory Joseph Kennedy, age 81, died peacefully surrounded by loved ones, at Ridgewood Veterans Wing on November 20th, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He leaves behind his loving wife, Patricia (Goodwin) Kennedy; his five children: Jamie (and Heather), Jeff, Jason, Justin & Milah (and Matt); his two grandchildren: Catherine & Justin Jr. and their caring mother Iris Fogarty. He also leaves his sisters: Sandra (and Bill) Shephard and Rosemund Jolin. He was predeceased by siblings: Charlie, Donnie, Shirley and Percy. Born and raised in Saint John, NB, Greg was the son of late Cyril Kennedy and Irene Nelson. A retired long shoreman, entrepreneur, member of the ILA and veteran of the Korean Conflict where he earned several medals. He was a teacher at heart, whether it was life lessons, music, or pool to so many friends at J.K's Corner Pocket. Greg was a mentor to so many people in and around Saint John. Greg was also an accomplished musician, and a natural entertainer with a love of Country music. Greg's proudest moment in his life was coming back from Romania in 1990 with an adopted baby girl for his wife Patricia! Greg always chose to see the bright side of things, taking life one day at a time. He was a prolific reader who enjoyed sharing his philosophies on life and Hare Krishna. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, NB. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 22, 7-9pm and Sunday, November 23, 2-4pm & 7-9pm. A Funeral Service will take place on Monday, November 24, from Castle “Fallsview” Chapel at 1pm with Rev. John Martin officiating. A reception will follow at the Castle ‘Fallsview” Reception Center. Interment will be held at a later date.Donations made to Alzheimer Society, IWK, Romero House or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
