Mrs.Caulfield and family:My condolences to you all on the recent passing of Mr. Caulfield. I never got to know him personally( I wish that I had ), but learned of him through stories from friends and neighbours . He always gave me a friendly wave as he went up the road in his old truck to the woods and his garden at the top of the hill.. As kids , we would sometimes sneak a carrot from his garden! My how his carrots always tasted better than my Grandfathers! Our loved ones will live forever in our memories and stories.

I am Snooks's nephew (son of Toad) and one of two remaining members of the West Coast branch of the Caulfield family (formerly from Montreal). From the time I was born until my late teen years, I spent at least three weeks every year in NB and sometimes a lot longer than that, so I got to know my uncle well. I have lots and lots of good memories of Snooks and so, of course, does my late father, who told me this story. I don't remember this, but when my grandmother (Snooks's mother) was dying of cancer in Saint John General, he smuggled me (I was 5 or 6 years old, and apparently too young for the hospital's liking) up some back stairs so I could see my grandmother, and my grandmother could see me, one last time. That was very generous and thoughtful of him, and couldn't have been an easy thing for him to do. Snooks was a great guy and lived a life that was full of significance and meaning for him, which is no small thing, and to be recognized and applauded. Peter Caulfield, Vancouver, BC
