Obituary of Kathleen Nickerson

Nickerson, Kathleen Mary Mrs. Kathleen M. (Barden) Nickerson, wife of the late Walton Nickerson, passed away on February 19, 2011 at the Kings Way Care Centre, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Aughavore, County Leitrim, Ireland on April 24, 1915, to the late Patrick and Margaret (Murphy) Barden, she came to Canada as a war bride, on the last trip of the RMS Queen Mary.  She resided in Saint John since 1953, and was an active member of Our Lady of the Assumption parish. Kay belonged to the Legion of Mary and the Third Order of St. Francis.  She was also an Auxiliary Member of Branch 69 of the Royal Canadian Legion.  She dedicated many years of volunteer service to pastoral care at Centracare. Kathleen is in the thoughts and prayers of her last surviving sister, Lena Kiernan of Ireland, from a family of fourteen children, and her loving niece and namesake, Kathleen Kelly. She is survived by her daughter Maura (Brian) Collier of Saint John, son-in-law Gerald (Betty Ann) Kindred, grandchildren Cindy (Isaac) Collier, Christina (Michael) Childs, Lynn Collier, Theresa (John) Trainor, Christopher (Krystal) Kindred, Kevin Kindred, Craig Kindred, 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Walton, she was predeceased by her daughter Pamela Ann Kindred and son, Mark Austin Nickerson. Resting at Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. (634-1701). Visitation will take place on Monday from 7 – 9 pm and Tuesday from 2- 4 and 7- 9 p.m. A RCL tribute to a member of the Ladies Auxilliary will be held on Tuesday at 7 pm. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 12 noon from Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Interment in Ocean View Cemetery. Donations in memory of Kathleen to Our Lady of the Assumption Church Building or to the Kings Way Centre Mini-bus Fund would be appreciated by her family.
