Obituary of Bertha "Bea" McConnell
McConnell, Bertha “Bea” May - It is with great sadness that the family of Bertha “Bea” McConnell announces her passing on Dec. 17, 2013. Bea went peacefully in her sleep at the Church of St John and St. Stephen Nursing Home. Born on October 17, 1925 in Hampton, N.B., she was the daughter of the late Lily (Smith) and Alfred Scribner and loving wife of the late Lloyd (Larry) McConnell for 56 years. Bea will be remembered by all that knew her for her loving heart, beautiful spirit and sharp wit. Bea is survived by her daughters Valerie (the late Robert Lebel), Kathryn (Rick Watters), Wayne (Patty Keiver), daughter-in-law Sue McConnell, grandchildren Sabrina (Lebel), Brianna (Welsh), Jamie, Tom, Davie and Matt, and brother Elmer (Scribner). Besides her parents, Bea was predeceased by her husband Larry, son Terry, son-in-law Bob, sisters Mable and Vivian and brothers Louis and Ken. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave., Saint John, NB., visitation will take place on Friday, Dec. 20 from 3:30 - 6:30. A funeral service, followed by a reception, will take place on Saturday Dec. 21 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be held at a later date in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Donations, in memory of Bea, may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care given to our Mother at St. John and St Stephen Nursing Home and to thank each and every caregiver who became part of her family. We would also like to thank Rev. Greg McMullen of St. Mary and St. Bartholomew's Church who was by her side during her last days bringing peace, closure and comfort to our Mother and the family.
