Obituary of Audrey Leahey
Leahey, Audrey It is with heavy hearts that the family of Audrey Leahey announce her passing at Rocmaura Nursing Home on Monday, April 23, 2012. Audrey was a much loved and respected teacher, who always expected and received the very best from her students. Many of her young chargers often referred to her as Miss “Lady” and eagerly waited for a drive home in her yellow “bug”. Audrey possessed a joie de vie like no other, she was an enthusiastic traveller and an avid bridge player – who was always ready for the next adventure. She was an example to all as a woman of great faith. Audrey was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was the only daughter of Thomas Leahey and Laura (Casey) Leahey. She was predeceased by her parents and her six brothers and one nephew; John J., William M., Father Edward, Charles J., Arthur R. and Thomas B. and her nephew Thomas W. Audrey is survived by two sisters-in-law – Patricia, of Rothesay and Marjorie, of Halifax; 21 nieces and nephews, Mary Jo Mahody, Penny (Paul) Hemens, Mary (John) Crilley, Dr. Lorne (Ellie), Mike (Peggy), Paul (Barb), Dr. Edward (Sandy), Martha Miller, Bill (Jane), Margaret (Doug) Bailey, Brian (Jill), Casey (Sherry), Marion, Madeline (Howard) Snow, Dr. Shelagh, James (Ann), Robert (Eileen), Brenda (Harry) Young, Terry, Tom (Grace) and Danny; 45 great nieces and great nephews and two special friends, Barbara Coombs and Florence McLaughlin. Audrey was a graduate of St. Vincent’s High School, Provincial Normal School and University of New Brunswick. She was active in her community as a member of the Catholic Woman’s League, the Assumption Choir and the Irish Canadian Cultural Association. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff of Garden Court, at Rocmaura Nursing Home who were so good and kind to Audrey for the past ten years; and the spiritual guidance of Father William Phillips and Sister Anita Naves. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, “Fallsview Chapel”, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John West (634-1701) visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, April 25, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. from Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. There will be a reception at the Assumption Center, following the service. Donations, in memory of Audrey, may be made to the Rocmaura Foundation, The Father Edward Leahey and Father Carl Hickey Memorial Scholarship Fund, the Saint John School Milk Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice.
