I wish to send my heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Ronnie Oliver and Cathy Hill. Being a school friend of Cathy and having lived downstairs from the Olivers for many years at the house on City Line, Marina Oliver was like a second mother to me growing up. I was often welcomed to tag along on Sundays, when she and Cathy would visit her mother in East Saint-John and would go along during the many outings and drives around Sussex and the countryside that she would like to do. I remember the many nights sleeping at the house as a school girl and the meals and baking she would do in her kitchen. Marina was a superb cook and was always preparing something in her kitchen. She could always be counted on to feed who ever showed up at her house. Being a growing teenager, I never refused those offers for the simple reason that her cooking was so good. I fact, her baking of cookies, cakes, and pies to this day are still the best I have ever tasted. I will always remember Marina as a loving, kindhearted and generous woman who was very community minded and who would always have a kind word to say to everyone. I do not ever remember her wearing pants, always either in a dress or skirt no matter the weather. She was always a good looking woman who carried herself with grace and dignity. She found pleasure in helping others and I am sure the kindness and generosity of spirit she showed in her life will be rewarded in the memories of of the people whose lives she touched. I am very sad that she has passed on and that I cannot be there for the funeral service. My thoughts and prayers are with Ronnie and Cathy.
