Obituary of Mrs.Giovanna Rocca
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Giovanna Rocca wish to announce her passing on March 9, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital with her loving family by her side. Born in 1930 in Sambiase, Calabria, Italy to Antonio and Giuseppina (Rocca) Mastroianni. Giovanna was the beloved wife of Filippo Rocca.Giovanna immigrated to Saint John in 1963. During her 1st struggling years in her new country of Canada, she became a brave, courageous wife and mother who never faltered or was afraid of hard work in order to take care of her family. She was considered a mother figure to all her relatives who immigrated after her and was always ready to receive them with open arms. Giovanna’s love and generosity for the people she cared for was exhibited by her passion of offering generous home cooked Italian meals to all her family and friends.She is survived by her beloved husband Filippo Rocca, one son Pat (Cheryl) Rocca, of Rothesay, one daughter Angela (Silvio) Sagrati, of Saint John, one brother Annibale Mastroianni, of Italy, four grandchildren, Andrea (Pat Allanach) Rocca, Kristopher Rocca, Patrick Rocca, Alessandra Sagrati, and several nieces and nephews.Giovanna was predeceased by her parents, one son Antonio(Tony) Rocca (2001), brothers, Pasquale Mastroianni, Giovanni Mastroianni, sisters, Luisa Mastroianni, and Caterina Rocca.Resting at Castle funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B.(634 1701). Visitation will be held on Friday March 11, 2016 from 2 to4pm and 7 to9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday March 11, 2016 at 12 noon from St. Rose of Lima Church. Encryption will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery in the family mausoleum. A reception will be held after the funeral at Castle “Fallsview” Reception center. Donations to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
