Obituary of John Dunham

Dunham, John Clarence Edwin The death of former Deputy Chief of Police John C. Dunham, husband of Olga Joan (Boudreau) Dunham occured suddenly on Tuesday, April 10th at home. He was born in The Parish of Lancaster, N.B. November 1, 1926. He was the son of the late William Frederick and Patience Lavinia (Peer) Dunham. John served in the Army in the Second World War and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Lancaster Branch #69, he celebrated his 50 year membership in 2007. John joined the Lancaster Police Department in 1952 after serving two years with the C.P.R. Police in Montreal and Saint John. He transferred to the Saint John Police Force in 1967 when the City of Lancaster amalgamated with the City of Saint John. He served as Patrol Sergeant, Desk Sergeant, Court Sergeant, Divisional Inspector, Traffic Superintendent, and retired as Deputy Chief of Administration in 1986. He was a life member of the New Brunswick Police Chiefs Association. John was well known in the Masonic Fraternity having served as Worshipful Master of Carleton Union Lodge No. 8 F. and A. M. and Senior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge of New Brunswick. He was Grand Representative of the State of New York, U.S.A., He was awarded the Beardsley Medal, the highest award given to a Mason in New Brunswick. He was First Grand Principal of Union Chapter No. 4, Most Puissant Sovereign of the Red Cross of Constantine and Member of Luxor Shriners having held many offices such as President of the North East Motor Corps Association, President of Saint John Shrine Club, Transportation Chairman for Shrine Children to Shriners Hospitals, President Saint John Shrine Motor Corps, President Uniform Units, and Recorder of Luxor Temple. He was a member of the N.B. Antique Auto Club Inc. having showed his 1927 Model T Roadster Pick Up at many shows. He was a lifelong member of St. George’s Church. John was a hospital visitor with the N.B. Heart Surgery Support Group. Besides his loving wife for 62 years, he is survived by one daughter, Patricia (Bob) Reynolds, four sons, Terrance J. (Marilyn), Gregory N. (Karen), William W. (Sheila) and Mark E. (Nanette), seven grandchildren, Jonathan, Sean, Corey, Andrea, Peter, Mark and Victoria. Three great grandchildren, Marley, Morgan and Ryder. One sister, Frances Arnem, one brother in law, Bob Arnem, one sister-in-law Marjorie Campbell, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, George and Bill, four sisters, Edna Goldie, Doris Kaine, Eileen Laskey and Lavinia Spragg. As per his request, John will be cremated and a private celebration of his life will be held with his family at a future date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Castle Funeral Home, “Fallsview Chapel”, Saint John West, (634-1701).
