Obituary of Gerald Spencer

Gerald Ronald Spencer of Rocmaura Nursing Home in Saint John passed away on September 3, 2012 at the age of 78 years.  Born in Wolfville, N.S., Gerald was the son of the late Herbert W. and Minnie (Tancock) Spencer.  Gerald received his Diploma in Applied Science from Acadia University and his Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from Dalhousie University.  He was employed by Shawinigan Water and Power in Shawinigan Falls and Montreal, Quebec for three years and by the New Brunswick Telephone Company as a professional engineer for 27 years.  Gerald was a keen golfer and skier, who enjoyed camping and skating.  An avid volunteer, he was a member of the Canadian Ski Patrol, served on the vestry of Church of the Good Shepherd for many years, and was a director of the West Side Coop.   As a life-long learner, he often took courses: French, first aid, and computer science. Gerald is survived by his wife Nancy A. (Coit) Spencer; son, Peter (Donna) Spencer of Wasaga Beach, ON; daughters, Jane (David) Green of Prince of Wales and Carol Ann (Michael) Melvin of Fredericton.  Gerald is also survived by his brother Murray (Margaret) Spencer of Wolfville, N.S.; two sisters, Doreen Spencer of Wolfville, N.S., and Priscilla Jean O’Neil of Port Hardy, B.C.; grandchildren, David and Sarah Green; step-grandchildren Natasha (Darren) James and Ryan (Kristie Lewis) Gertridge; and step-great-grandchildren, Carly and Ava James and Kaylea Gertridge.  Gerald was predeceased by his brother Richard Spencer. The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 7th at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd.  Interment will be made in the Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.  A reception in the church hall will follow the interment.  Condolences may be offered through Castle Funeral Homes at www.castlefh.com
