Obituary of Mary Benoit
Mary passed peacefully away on Wednesday, March 23rd, 2016, after several years of loving care at St. John & St. Stephen Nursing Home. Mary was born in 1921 and lived all her life in Saint John, mostly on the West Side. She is survived by her husband, Clovis Benoit, and her sister, Geraldine (Bill) Donovan and many nieces and nephews. Mary was pre-deceased by her parents, Alfred and Gladys (Goodine) Maloney and sisters Marguerite, Eileen, Dorothy and brothers Bernard, Vincent and Maurice.Mary led a very active life in her community. She took part in many musical productions and was a member of the Seabelles Barbershop Chorus for 25 years. Mary was a longtime member of the Assumption Parish and choir. She gave generously of her time and talents in support of numerous charitable organizations, friends and relatives.Mary was always ready for a game of cards, or a singsong. In her earlier life, she enjoyed road trips with her friends in her Volkswagen Beetle. She and Clovis enjoyed visiting his family in Tracadie where she tried bravely to speak some French.Resting at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John (634-1701). Visitation will be held on Monday, March 28, 2016 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday March 29, 2016 at 12noon from Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church (360 Dufferin Row). In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
