Obituary of Bessie Maguire

Maguire, Bessie: It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bessie M. Maguire, beloved mother, grandmother and aunt, after a period of failing health at the Carleton-Kirk Lodge. Bessie was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was born in Lorneville, N.B. on June 10, 1920 to George and Margaret (Wilson) Wilson. Bessie married Sidney Maguire in 1954, took up residence on the West Side, and four children followed in quick succession. She was a generous, caring mother who showed her love in a myriad of ways, not the least of which was all the delicious baking. Once her family was grown, she enjoyed bowling, bus trips, crossword puzzles and card games. Bessie was a kind, gentle soul and a devoted member of the Carleton-Kirk United Church, past member of the Session, and a member of the UCW. She leaves behind her four children: Rev Charlene Maguire MacKnight (John) of Miramichi, NB, Cheryl McMahon (Daniel) of Comox, BC, Barry of Saint John and Janice Flowers (Reg) of Saint John. Bessie was thrilled to attend the wedding of her only grandchild, Amanda Flowers to Aaron Gates in May of this year. She was predeceased by her husband Sidney in 1961, by brothers Lewis, Fred, George and Harry, and sisters Eleanor and Stella. The family graciously acknowledges the wonderful care given to her at the Carleton-Kirk Lodge. Arrangements are entrusted to Castle Funeral Home, "Fallsview Chapel", 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John West. Visitation will take place on Monday, August 27, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. from Carleton-Kirk United Church. Interment will take place at Lorneville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Carleton-Kirk United Church, or to a charity of the donor’s choice, would be appreciated by the family.
