Obituary of Alice Mary Ouellette

The family of Alice Mary (Daigle) Ouellette announce the death of their beloved mother on October 14, 2012. Alice passed away peacefully in her sleep at Bobby’s Hospice House with her loving family by her side. Born in St. Charles de Kent, N.B., on March 13, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Jean and Catherine Mary (Comeau) Daigle. Being one of the oldest of 16 children, Alice assisted with the mothering of her younger siblings. In 1949, at the age of eighteen, Alice moved to Saint John and had been a resident of west Saint John since that time. She was married to the late Marc Emile Ouellette. Alice had many interests besides her roles and responsibilities as wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Throughout the years, she worked as a professional cleaner. Alice loved gardening as a past time; a hobby that was passed on to all her children. Alice enjoyed sewing, knitting and quilt making for her family. She also dabbled in various arts and crafts, which she also shared with family. Singing and dancing was an important part of her childhood and Alice always loved music and dancing. Alice met her husband Marc at a dance, and they passed their love of singing and dancing on to their children. Alice later participated in country line dancing and clogging. She also practiced Tai Chi and Yoga. Alice enjoyed playing cards and bingo, especially in her retirement years. She was a busy auxiliary member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #5770. Alice`s sense of humour was thoroughly enjoyed by her children, family and friends. Her humility, kindness, compassion, warmth, understanding, and wisdom were qualities from which many benefited. She is survived by her children, Germaine (Michael) Corkery of Lower Sackville, N.S.; Linda (Stephen) Scott of Bedford, N.S.; Norma (Jesus) Despaigne of Saint John; Giselle Hannah of Saint John; Fernand (Lana) Ouellette of Fredericton, N.B.; seven grandchildren, Marc (Melissa ) Corkery of Hammonds Plains, N.S.; David (Jennifer) Corkery of Edmonton; Scott (Natalie Richard) Gogan of Quispamsis, N.B.; Angela Gogan of Saint John; Lisa (Allan) MacKay of Cole Harbour, N.S.; Matthew (Amanda Perrot) Scott of St. Brieux, Sask.; Brittney Hannah of Hampton, N.B. as well as eight great grandchildren, Ben Wickens, Ethan and Ashton Corkery, Sebastien and Dominic Gogan, Dylan and Hunter Hannah, and Chelsea Corkery. Alice is also survived by her siblings, Alvina Robichaud of St. Louis de Kent, N.B.; Doris (Jacques) Poirier of Rogersville, N.B.; Yvette (Claude) Albert of Shediac, N.B.; and Jeannette Keift of Shediac, N.B.; Leo (Yvette) Daigle of St. Louis de Kent, N.B.; Gerald (Cindy) Daigle of Saint John; Eric Daigle of Quispamsis, N.B.; Louis (Yvette) Daigle of St. Louis de Kent, N.B.; Jean Marc (Martha) Daigle of Saint John; and Maurice (Cathy) Daigle of Saint John. Alice is also survived by the extended Daigle and Ouellette family including sixty-one nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind friends and neighbours.  In addition to her parents and her husband, Alice was predeceased by her infant sister Germaine, infant brother Jean, sister Anita Nesbitt; and brothers Arthur and Ronald Daigle. Alice’s faithful companion, beloved dog Austin, ”the 6th child” and her “guardian” of fourteen years, passed away in the spring of 2011. The family of Alice would like to thank all the friends and family who visited her during her illness. They were a great source of memories and laughter. The family would also like to thank family, friends and neighbours who provided a great deal of food during this difficult period of time. We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Bobby’s Hospice, the Extra-Mural Program and Dr. Jessica Hemmings for the exceptional care and support. Arrangements are entrusted to Castle Funeral Home, Fallsview Chapel, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John West, N.B. (634-1701). Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 17th, 2012 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The family would appreciate donations made to Bobby’s Hospice. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, October 18th, 2012 at 12:00 Noon at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Alice, a family matriarch, will always be remembered for her strength, integrity and faith.
