Robert was a friend at SJHS (class of 1958). Although I've been away from Saint John for many years I have pleasant memories of his enthusiastic and often humorous perspectives on things both at school and at the "Y". Very sorry to learn of his passing. Sincere condolences to the family both on my behalf and on behalf of my late cousin Gord Angevine who I believe was a close friend of Bob's through elementary school and junior high.

Robert has been a dear friend most of my life. We met when I moved to Saint John in 1956, when I was 15 years old, and we have been friends over the years in spite of the miles separating us for much of that period. Robert was my best man at my wedding to Barbara in 1965, and I have many fond memories of our times together in those days. His Mom and Dad were dear to me too, as was his sister Pauline and cousin Harold. Robert was the piano player in our rock band, The Asteroids, and along with Mel and Jon, and our driver Pete, we made a historic trip to Halifax together in 1958 to cut a record with Rodeo. What a thrill that was! What dreams we had! Robert was such an inspiration. We were together for the last time about two years ago, when Robert toured me around the "renewed" Saint John, and we lamented together the disappearance of so many of our fondly remembered landmarks. Our connections since them have been in frequent lengthy telephone conversations. Robert never forgot to phone me on my birthday over the years, which I attribute to his caring nature. His has been a life of caring, for his parents, his wife, his daughter, and his close friends. My condolences, and those of Barbara, go out to Helen and to the rest of Robert's family. Although we are unable to get to Saint John for the funeral, we will quietly honour Robert at home here in Ottawa on Monday.

Dear Helen, Please accept my deepest sympathy on the passing of your Dad. Our lives intertwined many times over the years. We both were transported home from the hospital in the same receiving blanket. It was also shared with Harold Fanjoy. I was the last one to use it. I’m sure that you have heard that story....perhaps more than once. Although he was a bit older, we knew one another in high school and then again shared classes together in a Telecommunications and Electronics program at Vocational. Our lives went in different directions following that as I left the province and he did also. Years later when I returned and moved to Morrisdale, Bob would drop in to chat with me every Mother’s Day on his way to his Mom’s grave site in Oak Point. Bob was so very talented and it manifested itself in music and many other aspects of life. His caring ways were a hallmark of his character though. I’m so very sadden by his untimely passing. I’m in Florida for the winter and thus won’t be able to express my condolences in person but they are nonetheless most sincere. Bob Cromwell

Bob was a super talented guy who could turn a deft hand and brilliant mind to just about anything. He was very funny, posessing a finely honed wit. The legion of those of us who shared his friendship will always cherish those youthful and carefree days in our old Loyalist City home.

I was blessed to meet Robert through his lovely daughter and friend Helen. From the beginning of our short friendship, I knew I found a kindred spirit in Robert. We had many great chats on our drives to his doctor appointment in the past couple of years. He always had a great topic to talk about. He always was such gentleman and had a great sense of humor. I will greatly cherish the time we spent together and the laughs and stories we shared will always be with me. I will certainly miss my dear friendship that I found in you...Rest in Peace Robert. Your kindred friend Char. Prayers and condolence to you Helen and Jonathan and family.
