Obituary of Roy Melanson

Melanson, Roy Joseph Passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 08, 2012 at his son’s home in Saint John. Born on March 15, 1929, he was the son of the late Antoine and Sylvie (LeBlanc) Melanson and the loving husband of 59 years to Bernice (Wallace) Melanson. Along with his wife, Roy is survived by his sons, Richard (Jackie) Melanson, Gary (Annette) Melanson and Ronald (Dottie) Melanson, all of Saint John, NB; daughters, Mary Anne Melanson and Marlene Melanson, both of Saint John, NB; grandchildren, Neil (Brandy), Tracy, Jason (Carley), Melissa (Mike) McNulty, Matthew, Paul and Benjamin Melanson; great grandchildren, Shanice Brown, Noah Melanson, Olivia McNulty and Jack Melanson; step great grandchildren, Kayla, Avery and Mike McNulty; brother, Paul (Judy) Melanson, of Dartmouth, NS; sisters, Eleonare LeBlanc, Halifax, NS, Lorraine Gaudet, Yvonne LeBlanc, Therese (Ed) Cormier and Ida Aubut, all of Dieppe, NB; brother-in-law, Ronnie Wallace, of Saint John, NB; sister-in-laws, Doreen Goguen, of Saint John, NB and Mary Anne (Eddie) Ackerson, of Fredericton, NB, foster brother-in-law James (Rose) Wallace; numerous nephews and nieces and his loving dog, Chevy. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughters, Deborah Lynn, Donna Marie and Brenda Mary, and sister Helene Melanson. Roy loved helping others. Working on habitat for humanity homes and helping his son to build a home brought him great joy. He built homes for several family and friends and found a passion in building boats, including his own lobster fishing boats. He enjoyed working on the water, hunting, salmon fishing, lobster fishing and worked over 40 years as a Longshoreman. Roy was an active member of St. Rose of Lima Church and was involved in the Denis Morris Community Centre. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, “Fallsview Chapel”, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John West (634-1701) there will be visitation on Monday March 12, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday March 13, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church in Saint John. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery. There will be a reception at the Denis Morris Community Centre, following the interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
