Obituary of Jean Steen
The death of Jean White (Folkins) Steen, wife of the late James Steen occurred on September 28, 2011 at Bobby’s Hope Hospice. Born in Pleasant Ridge, Kings Co, NB on June 20, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret (White) Folkins. She is survived by her son Kenneth (Coleen) Steen of Saint John; daughters Irene (George) James of Saint John, Ruth (Douglas) Whelpley of Nerepis; brother Gerald (Marilyn) Folkins of Saint John. Jean will also be missed by her 10 grandchildren Jamie James, Dwayne (Anna) James, Kevin (Shirley) James, Jeff (Michelle) James (Barb), Jimmy (Melany) Steen, Janet (Darren) Hewey, Mark (Tracey)Steen, Shelley (Chris) Edwards, Kelly (Bryan) Delucry, and Kandace (Tony) Palmer; 14 great grandchildren Megan, Matthew, Ryan, Kaitlyn, Nicholas, Dylan, Taylor, Shannon, Alyssa, Ashley, Devin, Matthew, Brittany, Kailey. She will also be remembered by her great great grandchild Brayden, sister in law Esther Irvine as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Jean was also predeceased by her sister Georgia (Stanley) Dunfield and her brother Frank (Bev) Folkins. Jean enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She will always be remembered for making them the fudge they so loved. She was a member of the Wesley United Church, Berwick, NB and adherent to Hillcrest Baptist Church. She also was a member of the Harmony Club, seniors group at Hillcrest Baptist, and past member of the J.O.Y. Club, Saint John NB. She was employed at Modern Business College for 24 years in the stenographic department and 8 years as principal. Resting at Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John West (634-1701) with visiting on Friday, September 30, 2011 from 2-4, and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Castle "Fallsview" Funeral Home with the family receiving visitors 1 hour prior. The interment will follow at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery and a reception at the Fallsview Family Reception Centre. A special thank you goes out to Dr. Willis, Dr. Sheppard, Dr. Carson, and the staff at Bobby's Hope Hospice for the care and kindness shown to Jean and her family during Jean’s illness. Donations in Jean’s name may be made to Bobby’s Hope Hospice or the charity of one’s choice.
